55-Alive Driver Refresher Course

Defensive Driving

Hearing, eyesight, flexibility and reflexes change as we get older. These changes can affect driving, unless we learn how to compensate for them.

The 55-Alive course offers a refresher for drivers 50 and older. This six-hour course will help you:

  • become more confident.
  • improve your awareness of traffic hazards.
  • learn about updates to traffic laws and new technology.
  • identify bad habits that creep into your driving over the years.

Trained instructors, mature drivers themselves, teach each course in a relaxed, supportive environment. The course is presented using slides, videos and group discussion. Each participant receives a provincial driver's handbook, SGI booklet for the Older and Wiser Driver, and a course workbook. This internationally recognized course is endorsed by the Canada Safety Council

Even good drivers develop bad habits. Taking a defensive driving course will help you keep your skills sharp. You'll even learn how to avoid collisions when it's someone else's fault.

Courses are available for individuals and groups. Consider taking a course for yourself, or arrange one through your employer. The Defensive Driving Course is an established, proven program.  Check out the course outline.

We hold classroom courses on demand. We limit the size of our courses so that our instructors can encourage discussion - we want everyone to participate fully in the course.

Want a course for your workplace, organization or group? We'd be happy to set up a special course just for your business, government office, association or other group. In addition, consider adding an Auto$mart Fuel Efficient Driving course, to help your employees not only become safer drivers, but also reduce pollution and save on driving costs at the same time.
